Associate Professor Shuhei Higashibayashi (Laboratory of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry) was awarded a Certificate of Commendation from Hiroki Kita, Chief of the Shiba Fire Station, Tokyo Fire Department, for his meritorious service in the proper handling of hazardous materials.
This award is presented during the Autumn Fire Prevention Campaign to recognize business establishments, or their hazardous materials security supervisors and handlers, for their "meritorious service in the proper handling of hazardous materials," demonstrated by their routine compliance with fire-related laws and regulations and the faithful performance of their duties.

Additionally, the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus was awarded the Disaster Prevention and Safety Merit Award from the Tokyo Disaster Prevention & Emergency Medical Service Association, a public interest incorporated foundation.
