On Monday, January 31, the 2022 Faculty of Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony was held in the Auditorium on the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus. While the ceremony is usually attended by many faculty members and guarantors, the number of attendees was limited this year due to the COVID-19 situation.
The ceremony began with opening remarks by Hidemi Misawa, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, followed by words of encouragement from Takanori Kanai, Dean of the School of Medicine, and Yuko Takeda, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, who shared their heartfelt thoughts as medical professionals. Additionally, Juichi Otani, Director of the Department of Pharmacy at Keio University Hospital, and Katsunori Yamaura, Director of the University Community Pharmacy, spoke about the mindset required for practical training in their respective hospital and pharmacy settings.
After putting on their new white coats, which feature the Keio University emblem on the left shoulder, a student representative read the "Oath," expressing their determination to enter the actual clinical setting. The oath stated, "We will strive toward the ideal image of a 'pharmacist,' and we will return having grown significantly, not only as medical professionals but also as human beings. We will continue to devote ourselves to our studies so that in the future, each of us can become a pharmacist who serves as a role model for society and makes a significant contribution to medicine."
Finally, Vice-President Yuko Kitagawa offered words of encouragement, and the students once again took to heart the significance of participating in the clinical field as pharmacists.
The 2022 practical training at pharmacies and hospitals will begin on Monday, February 21.
