On Monday, January 30, the 2023 Faculty of Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony was held in the auditorium of the Shiba-Kyoritsu Campus. While the ceremony is usually attended by many faculty members and guardians, this year's event was held with a limited number of attendees due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
The ceremony began with opening remarks by Hidemi Misawa, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, followed by heartfelt words of encouragement from Takanori Kanai, Dean of the School of Medicine, and Yuko Takeda, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, who shared their thoughts on being healthcare professionals. In addition, Juichi Otani, Director of the University Hospital Department of Pharmacy, and Katsunori Yamaura, Director of the University Community Pharmacy, gave an address from the perspective of receiving students, outlining the mindset required for practical training in hospitals and pharmacies, respectively.
Afterward, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Hidemi Misawa and Tomonori Nakamura, Director of the Center for Social Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Care Sciences, presented each student on stage with a brand-new white coat featuring the Keio University emblem on the left shoulder.
In a solemn atmosphere, after all the students put on their white coats in unison, a student representative read the "Oath." They concluded by expressing their determination: "We hereby pledge to grow significantly as healthcare professionals and as human beings, and to return with the confidence and resolve to make a major contribution to society as future pharmacists."
Finally, Vice-President Yukou Kitagawa offered words of encouragement, and the students once again took to heart the significance of participating in clinical settings as pharmacists.
The 2023 pharmacy and hospital practical training will begin on Monday, February 20.
