1 (Responsibility)
Faculty members are responsible for ensuring the quality of the specialized knowledge that they produce through research and other activities. Their responsibility also extends to wholeheartedly engaging in student education, making best use of their specialized knowledge, skills and experience, as well as contributing to people’s health and welfare, safety and peace in society, and preservation of the earth’s environment.
2 (Actions)
We recognize that, to be viable, both pharmacy and autonomous scientific research rely on the trust of society. We will always make judgements that are rational and unbiased and take actions that bear the scrutiny of society. In addition, we will make maximum efforts to demonstrate the correctness and accuracy of the specialized knowledge and techniques generated through our activities to society, while actively participating in evaluation activities among scientists, in particular researchers in our own areas of specialization.
3 (Self-improvement)
We will strive to maintain and enhance our specialist expertise and skills while comprehensively understanding the impact of science and technology and their promotion on society and the natural environment. We will dedicate ourselves relentlessly to efforts and self-improvement that ensure we can always approach society’s future direction with the best possible judgement and attitude.
4 (Explanation and Disclosure)
We will actively explain the significance and role of our education, research and other activities to society, and rigorously evaluate the potential impacts on people, society overall and the environment, and the changes they may bring. We will publish the results neutrally and objectively, and strive to have fruitful dialogue in consideration of opinions in society.
5 (Research Activities)
In the process of planning, applying for approval of, implementing and reporting our research and activities, act with integrity in accordance with the spirit of this code and refrain from misconduct such as fabricating, falsifying or plagiarizing survey or research results. In particular, when conducting research involving human subjects, we will respect the dignity and human rights of participants to the full, and ensure the reliable preservation and strict handling of research records and survey data. In addition, test animals will be treated with consideration for their suffering and a sincere attitude.
6 (Establishing Proper Research Environments)
We will actively collaborate in establishing proper research environments as well as in maintaining and improving them, in order to ensure the responsible conduct of research and prevent misconduct.
7 (Compliance with Laws and Regulations)
In conducting education and research, and in the use of research funds, relevant laws, regulations and rules will be complied with. In lectures, presentations, publications, research presentations and other activities, adequate care will be taken to avoid infringing copyrights and intellectual property rights.
8 (Relationships with Others)
We will give full consideration to the human rights and welfare of research project collaborators and students during research activities, and fairly evaluate their contributions when publishing research results. In addition, when critiquing the work of other researchers, we will do so from an objective and impartial standpoint. We will humbly listen to criticism of our own research and engage in discussion with sincerity.
9 (Relationships with Students)
Without adopting an authoritarian attitude toward students, we will listen attentively to their opinions and criticisms, while respecting their individuality and human rights.
10 (Eliminating Discrimination)
In education, research and academic society activities, we will not discriminate against anyone based on race, nationality, gender, social status, ideology, religion or physical characteristics. Actions based on unsubstantiated beliefs or prejudice that undermine an individual’s dignity will not be tolerated.
11 (Awareness of Conflicts of Interest)
In conducting education, research activities, reviews, evaluations and judgments, we will pay close attention to the existence of conflicts of interest between individuals and organizations or among different organizations, and take appropriate measures to ensure consideration for the public good.
