Activities at the Center for Quality Assurance in Higher Learning

In April 2022, Keio University established the Center for Quality Assurance in Higher Learning and the Office for Quality Assurance in Higher Learning, which executes its administrative functions, to promote academic management. This has put in place a system for conducting internal quality assurance of education and educational reform.

The Center for Quality Assurance in Higher Learning is engaged in various activities aimed at the 'shift to learner-centered education,' including policy research, case studies, faculty development (FD), evaluation of education and learning outcomes, and institutional research (IR).

Main Initiatives at the Center for Quality Assurance in Higher Learning

  • Planning, implementation, and support of various measures to assure and improve the quality of education and learning at the university

  • Evaluation and verification of the educational content and outcomes of each undergraduate faculty and graduate school, and support for their improvement

  • Planning and implementation of cross-organizational educational initiatives for undergraduate faculties and graduate schools

  • Research, development, and promotion of new selection methods, educational techniques, and learning support, covering the entire process from student admissions to curriculum development and degree conferral

  • Collection, analysis, and provision of internal and external information for Institutional Research (IR) related to education and learning

  • Research and studies on higher education in general and dissemination of their results to society

Student Surveys

To realize 'learner-centered education,' we have been conducting surveys of current and graduating undergraduate students since the 2022 academic year. These surveys help us understand students' learning behaviors and the extent to which they achieve learning outcomes, and the data is used to analyze the current situation. A survey for new undergraduate students was introduced in the 2023 academic year, and a survey for graduate students will be implemented starting in the 2025 academic year. The survey results are shared with undergraduate faculties and graduate schools and are utilized as reference material for reviewing university-wide educational programs and courses, as well as for planning future curricula.

Course Evaluation Questionnaires

With the aim of further enhancing the quality of education and instruction in each undergraduate faculty and graduate school, course evaluation questionnaires have been conducted since the 2023 academic year. For the 2025 academic year, the results were analyzed within the center, and the questionnaire items were revised.

Cross-Organizational Education for Undergraduate Faculties and Graduate Schools

To cultivate leading professionals who can thrive in diverse societal fields while leveraging the expertise of each graduate school, and to vitalize graduate education at Keio University as a whole and foster the creation and application of new 'comprehensive knowledge,' we began offering common graduate school courses in the 2023 academic year. Furthermore, common undergraduate courses will be offered starting in the 2025 academic year. We currently offer 'Data Science and Artificial Intelligence,' a course that provides a broad overview of data science and artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on practical application examples.
