This center will create a regional framework for generating new fields and industries by integrating Japan's strengths in life sciences, information, and manufacturing. It will organically link outstanding interdisciplinary research results through integrated data science, accelerating technological innovation and social implementation. Concurrently, by building and utilizing an integrated social security database as its foundation, the center aims to continuously improve public services and help realize a more attractive and prosperous life for the people of the region.

2016 Business Report

■ Implementation Details, Research Results, and Degree of Achievement for the Fiscal Year Business Plan

In April 2016, Keio University opened the Tonomachi Town Campus, an advanced research and education collaboration square positioned as a venue for solving major social issues through collaboration with local universities, research institutions, companies, and local governments. Concurrently, Keio concluded a "Cooperation Agreement on the Promotion of Research and Education Activities at the Campus" with Kawasaki City. At the Tonomachi Town Campus, Keio University has fully launched a system to develop research and education activities, promote industry-academia-government collaboration, and drive the creation of innovation and new industries. In parallel, Kawasaki City established a business cooperation system by holding regular liaison meetings with the four local governments responsible for the region (Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City, and Ota Ward) and business stakeholders. For business promotion, the city also built a strong collaborative framework with the Kawasaki Institute of Industrial Promotion and KAST.

Through these efforts, the center made a full-scale start as a research complex leading global well-being, with research projects centered on King Skyfront in Tonomachi. In September 2016, it was officially selected as a hub for the "Program for Building Regional Innovation Ecosystems (World-class R&D and Verification Hubs [Research Complex])" by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
