Summary

Of the "intractable diseases" designated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, neuromuscular diseases currently account for about 25%, and most of them have no effective treatments established. In addition, being rare diseases, the hurdles to new drug development are high, and there is a strong need for some kind of breakthrough. In order to accelerate the elucidation of the pathogenesis of intractable neurological diseases and the development of treatments using iPS cells, we have established the "iPS cell research center for intractable neurological diseases" to challenge the development of treatments for these diseases through basic clinical research using iPS cells and cross-faculty research.
