Summary

In recent years, individual-focused behavior change measures such as nudges have been widely used in policy and organizational practice, but their limitations have been pointed out. In increasingly complex organizational and social issues, systemic aspects such as institutions, organizational structures, technology, and social norms behind behavior are not sufficiently considered, and as a result, the effectiveness of measures tends to remain limited. Furthermore, there are cases where an excessive burden of responsibility for behavior is placed on individuals, or where behavioral interventions lead to unintended consequences. Based on these issues, a new approach that integrates behavioral insights and systemic insight perspectives is required.

This research aims to construct a new design approach that encourages behavior change from a bird's-eye view, treating behavior change not as limited to the individual level but as a "behavioral system" that includes organizations, institutions, technology, and culture. By utilizing behavioral design tools from past research results and the knowledge and expertise of integrated design methods for behavior change and institutional reform, we aim to integrate behavioral design and systemic design while developing practical methods capable of addressing complex organizational issues.
