The First Lecture of the Crypto Asset Research Project Was Held

On Thursday, February 25, 2021, the first session, "The Present and Future of Crypto Asset Regulation," was held online. For this session, we invited lectures from two past secretary generals of the Japan Virtual and Crypto assets Exchange Association (JVCEA), a self-regulatory organization working on crypto asset regulation.

  • Mr. Makoto Yasukochi (Secretary General, Japan Virtual and Crypto assets Exchange Association)

  • Mr. Takahito Fukui (Former Secretary General, Japan Virtual and Crypto assets Exchange Association; currently at Anderson Mori & Tomotsune)

First, Professor Jiro Tamura (Professor, Faculty of Law) gave the opening remarks and explained the significance of the Crypto Asset Research Project. Next, Mr. Yasukochi and Mr. Fukui explained (1) the history of crypto assets, (2) the content and trends of crypto asset regulation, and (3) changes in the environment surrounding crypto assets and the future of regulation. Finally, the session concluded with a Q&A period, where they answered questions from the audience.

Through this project, by providing opportunities to hear directly from practitioners with deep knowledge of crypto assets as guest speakers, we aim to deepen the understanding of the potential that crypto assets can bring to society and promote the development of the crypto asset industry. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all who participated.
