On October 15-16, a delegation of three—Masato Yasui (Professor, School of Medicine), Yasumichi Arai (Senior Lecturer, School of Medicine), and Hiroki Nakatani (Project Professor, Keio University)—visited the Embassy of Japan and the University of Cologne, and participated in the World Health Summit in Berlin.
They held a Keio University lecture on medical sciences at the Embassy of Japan in Germany and attended a dinner party hosted by the Minister of the Embassy.
The next day, they participated in the World Health Summit. This symposium broadly covered global health issues such as large-scale infectious diseases, SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), access to medicines, health systems, multidrug-resistant bacteria, and the revolution in medical information, and was attended by over 2,500 people from the public and private sectors, mainly from countries receiving bilateral aid from Germany.
They then traveled to Cologne and visited the University of Cologne. There, they finalized plans for a joint remote lecture for graduate students of both universities and held a meeting about the second joint symposium scheduled to be held at Keio in 2019 and the future joint research framework.
World Health Summit
The lecture on medical sciences held at the Embassy of Japan in Berlin was attended by many Japanese residents, where the delegation highlighted Keio's international activities and perceived a high level of interest from the audience. Furthermore, at the University of Cologne, they not only had a meeting about the joint remote lecture between the two universities but also had a concrete exchange of opinions regarding the joint symposium scheduled for the following year. They were also able to conduct a constructive and highly beneficial exchange of information for similar activities planned for the future.
