Center for a New American Security: Washington, D.C. (USA), March 2018

A research caravan was held at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) on the morning of March 8.

Motohiro Tsuchiya (professor, Graduate School of Media and Governance) and Isao Miyaoka (professor, Faculty of Law) from Keio University gave research presentations. Attendees from CNAS included Director Richard Fontaine, Senior Advisor Patrick M. Cronin, Senior Fellow Daniel Kilman, and Research Associate Harry Krejsa, who participated in the discussion.

Professor Tsuchiya's report addressed the hardware aspects of cybersecurity, emphasizing the need to consider the protection of submarine cables. Professor Miyaoka's report focused on Japan-U.S. defense technology cooperation in light of Japan's relaxation of its arms export controls. A discussion on the impact of technology on security followed.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that presentations by graduate students would also be planned for the following fiscal year and beyond.
