It has been announced that Vice-President Yuko Kitagawa will be awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon in the 2026 Autumn Conferment of Medals.
The Medal with Purple Ribbon is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding inventions or discoveries in the fields of science and technology, or who have achieved excellent results in academic, sports, or artistic and cultural fields. Vice-President Kitagawa is being awarded for his research achievements in surgery.
