On January 19, in response to a fishing boat capsizing accident that occurred off the northwest coast of Tatsunoshima, Katsumoto-cho, Iki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Shuntaro Yashiro, a fourth-year student in the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Law, joined the rescue efforts and significantly contributed to saving lives at the scene.

At the time, Yashiro was fishing on a rocky shore when he was asked for assistance by the captain of a recreational fishing boat heading to the rescue of the capsized vessel. He immediately boarded the boat and rushed to the scene. At the site, he performed swift and precise rescue activities for the three crew members waiting for help on the bottom of the capsized boat, and all three were safely rescued.

These courageous actions were highly commended, leading to a commendation by the Chief of the Iki Coast Guard Station. An award ceremony was held on February 12, where a letter of appreciation was presented to Yashiro.
