In July 2025, Keio President Kohei Itoh was elected chair of the U7+ Alliance, an alliance of over fifty research universities from around the globe including both G7 and non-G7 countries. This recognition reflects Keio University's longstanding commitment to international collaboration and its proactive leadership on the global stage. President Itoh will serve a three-year term beginning in July 2025.
The U7+ Alliance hosts presidential summits at which university leaders discuss shared issues faced by countries around the world and make recommendations to governments in order to address these challenges. Moving forward, Keio University, as the chair of the U7+ Alliance, will collaborate with member universities from around the world to resolve global issues.
About the U7+ Alliance of World Universities
The U7+ Alliance of World Universities was established in 2019 on the initiative of the Sciences Po in France. As of June 2025, it comprises 54 member universities from 19 countries. The six U7+ member universities representing Japan are Hitotsubashi University, Keio University, The University of Osaka, The University of Tokyo, Tohoku University, and Waseda University. Besides universities from G7 nations, there are also member universities from South Korea, India, Australia, South Africa, Nigeria, and other countries.
