President Ito visited the University of Helsinki in Finland as a member of its International Advisory Board (IAB) , and then traveled to Estonia and Latvia.
On June 4, in Estonia, he visited the University of Tartu, the country's oldest university, where he exchanged views with the Vice Rector for Development and inspected the university's ICT-related education and research departments. He also visited the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to Estonia and met with the Vice Rector of Tallinn University of Technology.
On June 5, he moved to Riga, the capital of Latvia, and visited the newly developed campus of the University of Latvia's Faculty of Science and Technology with the Japanese Ambassador to Latvia. He also toured individual labs with the Dean, received an explanation of the faculty's educational and research activities, and then exchanged views on their research.
On June 6, he visited the University of Latvia's main campus and met with the Vice Rector for Research and other officials. After receiving an explanation of the university's education and research, he visited the Research Centers and Institutes at the university, where research related to quantum engineering for the Latvian government is conducted, and exchanged views.
