From May 6 to 9, a Climate Change and Energy Workshop by RENKEI (Japan-UK Research and Education Network for Knowledge Economy Initiatives) was held, hosted by Newcastle University and Durham University in the UK. Vice-President Motohiro Tsuchiya, Associate Professor Yoshinobu Takei of the Faculty of Law, and Associate Professor Naoki Wada of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies participated from Keio University.

The four-day workshop was held under the theme of "Just Transitions to a Net Zero World." Researchers from various fields from RENKEI member universities in both Japan and the UK learned about a variety of research projects related to this theme, including case studies of collaboration between universities, governments, corporations, and local communities, and also participated in group work. In the group work sessions, researchers from Japan and the UK discussed how they could collaborate from the perspectives of urban environments, industry, policy, climate justice, and environmental public health, and explored the potential for interdisciplinary joint research.

Vice-President Tsuchiya serves as the Co-Chair for the Japanese member universities of RENKEI. At the RENKEI Steering Committee Meeting held on the 8th, he co-chaired the meeting along with Professor Rob Sturman (University of Leeds), the Co-Chair for the UK member universities, and they discussed the future direction of RENKEI's activities.
