On Wednesday, July 10, the Keio Research Center for the Liberal Arts held its lecture series "The Liberal Arts of Information" at Hiyoshi Campus, featuring a lecture by Keio University President Kohei Itoh titled "Higher Education in the AI Era."
First, President Itoh introduced a new research partnership between Keio University and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) on cutting-edge AI research. This was followed by a presentation from Professor Takahiro Yako of the Graduate School of System Design and Management on the practical application of AI in higher education.
President Itoh then spoke passionately to the students about higher education in Japan. He emphasized that education is Japan's future and discussed the challenges and feasibility from various perspectives, such as the need for healthy competition, preventing the hollowing out of regional areas, and the financial burden of higher education, all with the aim of increasing the collective intelligence through the use of cutting-edge AI technology.
After the lecture, there was a continuous stream of questions from students and faculty, leading to a lively and enthusiastic Q&A session.
