President Itoh Participates in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024 (Davos)

President Itoh participated in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting (WEF at Davos) held from January 15 to 19. The theme for this year's Davos meeting, which was its 54th iteration, was"Rebuilding Trust."

President Itoh participated in a session titled "Building Bridges: University Leaders Meeting on Research and Development Ecosystem," attended by the presidents of leading universities around the world, where they discussed the roles that universities play in creating an ecosystem for research and development. He also took to the stage as a panelist for the session titled "Quantum-Ready: Navigating the Next Wave of Cybersecurity," where he discussed the risks and safety measures of the impending quantum economy era.

In addition, President Itoh participated in a session titled “AI and Higher Education,” hosted at the AI House, a global forum for AI progress. He was joined by Irene Tracey, vice-chancellor of the University of Oxford, Brian Schmidt, former vice-chancellor of the Australian National University, Paul Alivisatos, president of the University of Chicago, and Eng Chye Tan, president of the National University of Singapore. Teruo Fujii, president of the University of Tokyo, served as the moderator for the session. The panel discussion focused on how higher education, especially university education, should evolve in response to generative AI replacing various aspects of human intelligence, the challenges posed by generative AI, as well as how facilitating the use of generative AI can lead to progress for institutions of higher learning.
