On Wednesday, August 17, the 2022 Shinzo Koizumi Memorial Lecture was held in Room DB203 on the second basement floor of the Independence Wing, Building 4, at Hiyoshi Campus. The lecture, titled "The Post-COVID-19 World and the Chinese Economy: The Future of Systemic Competition in the 'New Cold War,'" was delivered by Tetsuya Komagata, Dean of the Faculty of Economics.

Professor Komagata has held positions such as Chair of the Academic Advisory Board of the Faculty of Economics and Vice Director of the Keio Institute of East Asian Studies (KIEAS), and he currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics. He specializes in the Chinese economy and is one of Japan's leading economic researchers, having received numerous awards, including the 2006 Award for Excellence in Small and Medium Enterprise Research and the 2012 Kashiyama Junzo Award.

In his lecture, regarding China's rise to become the world's second-largest economic power, he explained from the perspectives of globalization and China's unique circumstances how a one-party dictatorship and a market economy, once thought to be incompatible, were able to coexist. He then went on to describe the future of systemic competition from three perspectives: competition over economic growth, competition over security, and competition over well-being.

Approximately 100 students from the correspondence courses listened attentively, deepening their knowledge.
