Kotaro Tajima, a first-year student at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies and a member of the Athletic Association's track and field club, competed in the 98th Tokyo-Hakone Round-Trip University Ekiden Race (Hakone Ekiden), held on January 2 and 3. Running as a member of the Kanto Region University Student United Team, he covered the seventh leg of the return route. This marks the second consecutive year a Keio student has participated, following Kei Sugiura (then a third-year student at the Faculty of Law) the year before.

The seventh leg (21.3 km, from Odawara to Hiratsuka) is said to have the largest temperature fluctuations of all the legs. It is also a difficult course to run and maintain a pace on, with a series of small inclines and declines continuing after the 9 km mark. Tajima completed the leg in 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 33 seconds, passing the tasuki (sash) to the next runner.

Building on this experience, there are high hopes for Keio University's return to the Hakone Ekiden.

Thank you for your support.
