Keio University Novel Coronavirus Response Headquarters

Keio University began its workplace vaccination program on June 21 for faculty and staff, students, campus-affiliated personnel, and students from other universities (including those scheduled to study abroad and medical students with upcoming clinical training). As of July 12, an average of just over 1,700 people have been vaccinated per day, and a total of 32,772 vaccinations have been completed.

We are writing to report that during the vaccinations on July 8, 8 vials (80 doses) of the Moderna vaccine were discarded. While we anticipate a certain number of last-minute cancellations each day due to reasons such as poor health and carefully calculate and prepare the required number of vaccine doses based on the number of appointments, there was a procedural error in our system for confirming and communicating the required number of doses for the day. Although we took measures such as urgently vaccinating campus-affiliated personnel who were scheduled for vaccination on subsequent days, a surplus ultimately remained. Going forward, we will further strengthen our coordination systems at the dispensing site to prevent the disposal of surplus vaccines. We sincerely apologize for the disposal of these precious vaccines that were supplied for our workplace vaccination program.
