On Monday, January 25, 2021, Keio University launched a new course, "Invitation to Ex-Noguchi Room: Preservation and Utilization of Cultural Property in Universities," on FutureLearn (*), an international massive open online course (MOOC) provider. We invite you to enroll.

Cultural properties and artistic resources are found in various places, not just in museums and art galleries. Many universities also possess artistic resources, but they are often not recognized as valuable and remain underutilized. What is the situation at your university?

This course uses the Ex Noguchi Room, a cultural property owned by Keio University, as a case study. This architectural space was once a cultural property that the university took pride in, but its value was eventually forgotten, and it lost its original form through demolition and partial relocation. By sharing this experience with you, we will explore the possibilities for raising awareness of, preserving, and utilizing cultural properties within universities.

This course is offered with the understanding and cooperation of The Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum (NY) and The Isamu Noguchi Foundation of Japan.

*The videos and articles for this course are available in Japanese.
