Educational Corporation Keio University (Minato City, Tokyo; Keio President [President and Executive Director] Kohei Itoh; hereinafter Keio University), and the Educational Corporation Tokyo Dental College (Chiyoda City, Tokyo; President and Dean Yoshinobu Ide; hereinafter Tokyo Dental College), have been holding negotiations on their anticipated merger of the Faculty of Dentistry and its corporate entities in April of 2023 as announced in the November 26, 2020 press release, "Commencement of Discussions on the Integration of Tokyo Dental College's Faculty of Dentistry into Keio University and the Merger of Educational Corporations." (English edition released December 1, 2020.)
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has presented a heretofore unimagined and unprecedented crisis to society, unequivocally forcing educational, research, and medical institutions to make drastic changes to adapt and making it difficult to predict what will happen moving forward. Amidst these circumstances, Keio University and the Tokyo Dental College have reviewed the schedule that was proposed at the beginning of negotiations and have decided to continue discussions indefinitely without setting any definite dates or targets.
Moving forward, both Keio University and the Tokyo Dental College, with respect to both institutions' histories and current situations, in order to create a mutually beneficial merger that, above all, prioritizes the students of these schools, will endeavor to deepen their positive cooperation in the fields of education, research, medicine, and corporate management as they continue the merger.
