A disaster drill premised on a terrorist incident at Hiyoshi Campus was held on Tuesday, November 26. The drill, led by Kohoku Fire Department, was intended to strengthen ties with relevant organizations and disaster response capacities in the event of a terrorist incident, in preparation for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This was a large-scale drill which saw the participation of around 50 students, faculty, and staff members who were joined by around 10 police, firefighting crew, and ward officers.
On the day, an evacuation of students and facility users; apprehension of the suspicious person by police officers; neutralization of the poisonous substance; and rescue and relief operations for the injured by firefighting crew were completed, with the drill premised on multiple injured parties following the scattering of a poisonous substance by a suspicious individual. In addition, announcements in languages including English and Chinese were made and evacuation using signboards carried out.
A temporary tent for decontamination operations was erected on campus, with firefighters in protective clothing seen going back and forth in protective clothing. The drill was highly realistic and a genuine feeling of tension served to instill a sense of readiness in the event of a disaster.
