The Fall 2017 Graduate Commencement Ceremony was held from 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 14, in the West School Building Hall on Mita Campus. This fall, Keio University conferred a total of 226 degrees (74 doctoral and 152 master’s).
The ceremony began with Provost Tojiro Aoyama’s graduating class report and continued with President Akira Haseyama’s conferment of diplomas on the representatives of each graduate school. In his commencement address, President Haseyama spoke about the importance of human interaction and encouraged the graduates to make positive contributions to society through their learning experiences at Keio. Professor Rieko Nishikawa of the Faculty of Law and committee member of the Graduate School of Law then delivered her congratulatory address on behalf of Keio’s faculty and staff members, and the ceremony concluded with the singing of the Keio Alma Mater “The Juku-ka.”
The Fall Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony was also held at the same venue later that same day at 2 p.m. There were 271 graduates in total: 129 from the Faculty of Law; 12 from the Faculty of Science and Technology; 67 from the Faculty of Policy Management; and 63 from the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies.
Following the graduating class report from Provost Tojiro Aoyama, President Haseyama conferred the diplomas on the representatives of each undergraduate faculty. In his commencement address, President Haseyama conveyed his hope that the graduates will now go on to become active members of society in various fields as true leaders and with the spirit of independence and self-respect. Associate Professor Yoshihide Soeya of the Faculty of Law delivered a congratulatory address on behalf of Keio’s faculty and staff members, followed by a representative of the graduating class. The ceremony concluded with the singing of the Alma mater “The Juku-ka.”
After the ceremony, graduates, among them many international students, were seen taking pictures with friends and family to commemorate the occasion.
