Assistant Professor (Joshu) System

An Assistant Professor (Joshu) system has been established primarily for clinical graduate students to develop research at the School of Medicine through clinical activities, while also supporting hospital clinical activities and improving functions.

The Research Fellowships for Young Scientists program by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is a system that provides Japan's top-class, outstanding young researchers with the opportunity to concentrate on their research while independently choosing research topics based on their own creative ideas, thereby fostering and securing researchers. Among the doctoral students in the Graduate School of Medicine, approximately 20 individuals (DC1 and DC2 combined) are appointed as Research Fellows.

The "JSPS Ikushi Prize" was established in FY2010 through a donation from His Majesty the Emperor on the 20th anniversary of his accession to the throne, to honor outstanding doctoral students who are expected to contribute to the future development of academic research in Japan. Winners are awarded a scholarship for academic encouragement, and those who wish can be appointed as JSPS Research Fellows from the following year through prescribed procedures. Doctoral students from the Graduate School of Medicine have received this award in the past.
