Keio University

Support System

A meticulous, future-oriented support system is in place.

Class Advisors

First- and second-year students are assigned a class advisor in each class to provide guidance on academics, career paths, and other matters. Students enrolled in the course for those without a legal background can receive support from their class advisors for two years.

Academic Advisory Board

Faculty members selected from various fields serve on the Academic Advisory Board, providing general guidance throughout the year on matters such as course planning and study methods.

Office Hours

Instructors for each course hold office hours throughout the year. Students can also receive individual guidance and advice from faculty members other than their class advisors.

Academic Support Program

We are committed to enhancing our Academic Support Program, which is designed to supplement the regular curriculum. This support system helps students review fundamental knowledge in line with the progress of regular law school courses, provides appropriate guidance to improve legal reasoning and legal document drafting skills, and offers advice to students facing various uncertainties or concerns about their studies, student life, or future careers. The program is primarily run by young lawyers and Assistant Professors (Non-tenured) / Research Associates (Non-tenured) / Instructors (Non-tenured) of the law school, who are alumni and your seniors, creating an environment where graduate students can feel comfortable talking and seeking advice.

Group-Based Academic Support Seminars

These are seminars aimed at providing academic support for students taking fundamental law subjects (lecture courses) in their first year of the program for those without a legal background. Conducted online, one instructor guides a group of three to four students. Through Q&A sessions, discussions, and guidance on drafting legal documents such as reports, the goal is to reinforce the fundamental knowledge acquired in lecture courses and to develop basic legal reasoning and legal document drafting skills. Students can also feel free to consult about their daily studies and life.

Academic Support Seminars

Numerous Academic Support Seminars are available for second- and third-year students, designed to supplement regular courses such as fundamental law subjects and fundamental practical subjects. These seminars are taught by young lawyers who are alumni and your seniors. Based on a registration system for small groups, these seminars complement regular classes by using the same course materials in coordination with the curriculum. They provide review of fundamental knowledge, study advice, and guidance on drafting legal documents, all tailored to the students' level of achievement. We encourage all graduate students to actively participate in these Academic Support Seminars to supplement their learning and enhance their legal reasoning and legal document drafting skills.
