I am currently studying civil law, particularly in the field of obligations, at the Graduate School of Law. The reason I decided to advance to the Graduate School of Law was a vague interest in “research” that I had held since my undergraduate years. I have always enjoyed studying, but what I realized after enrolling in the Graduate School of Law is that “studying” and “research” are endeavors in completely different directions. Whereas “studying” is the task of learning about points of inquiry and absorbing the answers as one's own knowledge, “research” is the process of going a step further to find your own answers to questions that no one has yet solved.
In this regard, I feel that the Graduate School of Law provides a favorable environment not only for “studying” but also for conducting “research.” The curriculum for first-year master's students is centered on classes, where we can learn not only by “studying” legal knowledge but also by understanding how to conduct “research” through presentation opportunities and communication with various professors. And for the actual research, a wealth of research materials, both domestic and international, are available, providing an environment where we can delve deeper into our own interests. At the Graduate School of Law, you can spend your days in deep contemplation, going beyond the conventional framework of “studying.” I hope that all of you will come and have this valuable experience at the Graduate School of Law.
