I specialize in the history of political thought and am researching the reception of German political thought in Meiji-era Japan. My research is driven by an interest in understanding the formation of modern Japan within a global context from an international comparative perspective. In academia today, there is a strong demand for research that possesses not only a high degree of specialization but also an interdisciplinary nature that is not confined to a single field.

The Graduate School of Law provides an environment where, under the guidance of faculty members specializing in a wide range of fields, students can produce original research outcomes based on specialized and interdisciplinary learning. In advancing your research, it is possible to receive multifaceted guidance from faculty in other fields, in addition to thesis supervision from your academic advisor. Furthermore, through classes such as 'Joint Seminars' and 'Project Subjects,' as well as the hosting of symposia, there are abundant opportunities to invite researchers from Japan and abroad for discussions, allowing you to deepen your knowledge of adjacent fields. In addition, a free and lively daily exchange among graduate students across different fields creates an open research space. These daily academic activities, which cultivate specialized and multifaceted thinking, are supported by the extensive collection of books and historical materials in the university library.

For me, academia is the endeavor of deepening my understanding of subjects that interest me while discovering connections with various other learnings and insights, thereby grasping things three-dimensionally and painting a bigger picture. For those who wish to hone their expertise while being exposed to a diverse range of cutting-edge knowledge, I highly recommend the Graduate School of Law.
