Overview:

This lecture is intended to serve as an introduction to the economics of education, designed for students unfamiliar with the field. It will explain which aspects of economics, and to what extent, are beneficial for students of education and those working in the educational field to know. In recent years, research in the economics of education has produced important findings for examining the so-called "disparity" issue in education and for evaluating the effectiveness of educational policies. However, the insights from the economics of education have not been sufficiently examined within the field of education, and vice versa. Therefore, interaction between these two academic disciplines is essential. In this lecture, leading expert in the economics of education, Hideo Akabayashi, will give a talk and discuss this issue from multiple perspectives.
