Synopsis (from the film "Mawari Kagura" )
A kagura troupe travels along the Sanriku coast, asking for a place to stay for the night.
The people of Sanriku, who live with the sea, welcome the kagura into their homes, entrusting them with prayers for safety at sea, a bountiful catch, and family well-being. From the cradle to the grave, "Kuromori Kagura" has continued its itinerant journey for over 340 years, accompanying the lives of the people of Sanriku.
The Great East Japan Earthquake deeply wounded the coastal people. The kagura troupe, having narrowly escaped the tsunami, resumes its tour to console the people. It is a dance of prayer to comfort the souls of the deceased and encourage the living. In the sound of the kagura, a harbinger of spring, people sense the end of a long winter.
In this place, where tsunamis have struck time and again, the kagura troupe has for hundreds of years served to connect nature and people. On the rich Sanriku coast, where Zashiki-warashi, Oshirasama, gods, and spirits still dwell, a "Tono Monogatari of the Sea" was born in the aftermath of the tsunami.
