Overview | The publishing industry has been supported by the equipment-intensive industry of "printing" and the distribution system of "wholesalers." With the advent of the digital society, this situation is changing significantly. Anyone can now easily enjoy the act of publishing; in other words, a democratization of publishing is taking place. Furthermore, due to the digital shift at the National Diet Library, materials that were previously difficult to obtain are becoming easily accessible from anywhere in the country. With these major changes, the roles expected of local public libraries and university libraries are also being called upon to change. We would like to discuss this while examining the current status and challenges of digital publishing. |
