Keio University

Career Paths

Each year, approximately one-third of those who complete the master’s program go on to the doctoral program. Common career paths for those who complete the master’s program and enter the workforce include becoming a junior high or high school teacher in subjects such as social studies, Japanese, or English, working as a curator at a museum or art museum, or finding employment in the media industry at publishing houses, newspapers, or broadcasting stations. Some also make use of their specialized knowledge of languages or information processing to find employment in the private sector.

Nearly half of those who complete the doctoral program or leave after earning the required credits go on to full-time research positions at universities in Japan, while some serve as full-time faculty members at universities overseas. Including those who have become part-time lecturers or researchers at universities and other institutions, most continue their research. Many others have also gone on to become curators at museums and art museums, high school teachers, or employees of newspapers and publishing companies.
