Introduction to Field
Exploring Nursing that Supports Dignity and Individual Ways of Life
The modern world faces numerous challenges that threaten mental health, including rapid structural shifts, economic instability, and successive natural disasters and pandemics. In such times, supporting the maintenance and improvement of "mental health"—enabling each individual to maintain their dignity and live authentically and proactively—has become more crucial than ever. Our department aims to explore nursing practices that respect the dignity of individuals with mental health concerns and support their recovery and personal way of life, while striving to develop new foundational knowledge in the field.
Cultivating Advanced Practice Nurses and Researchers
We cultivate exceptional professionals capable of accurately identifying and analyzing complex challenges in mental health care and welfare from a nursing perspective to improve the Quality of Life (QOL) of those they serve. Our mission is twofold: training Certified Nurse Specialists (CNS) in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing who can intervene in complex health issues with high-level expertise and developing researchers who can theorize practical knowledge and elucidate various issues within the field.
Our Strengths: Multidimensional Guidance by a Diverse Team of Specialists
Our lectures, seminars, and practicums are led by a diverse team of specialists bridging theory and practice, including Professor Fukuda and Associate Professor Kawano, who possess extensive experience in practice, research, and education as Certified Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric and Mental Health ; Assistant Professor Midorikawa, whose research focuses on community support and vocational reintegration for individuals with mental health challenges; and Professor Masuda, a psychologist who scientifically explores phenomena such as nurse burnout and behavioral decision-making—all forming a flexible educational framework within our lab dedicated to supporting your academic journey and research across hospital, community, and occupational fields.
