Admissions Information for the Master’s Program in the Graduate School of Economics

The Graduate School of Economics admits a diverse range of applicants with the aim of cultivating individuals who possess advanced research abilities to appropriately analyze and critically examine economic phenomena, and who can contribute not only to academia but also to society at large.

The Graduate School conducts general entrance examination twice a year: the first round (held in July) and the second round (held in February or March). In light of the diversity in graduation timing both within Japan and internationally, applicants to the first-round examination may choose to enroll either in September or in April of the following year. Applicants to the second-round examination may choose to enroll either in April or in September of the same year. To ensure broad accessibility for students whose native language is not Japanese, applicants may take the entrance examination in English only.

Applicants for the first-round entrance examination are selected based on a written examination in economics and an interview.

Applicants for the second-round entrance examination are selected based on an evaluation of the paper submitted with the application and an interview, without a written examination.

In the first-round entrance examination, applicants who enter the program from the Faculty of Economics at Keio University and meet certain criteria are exempt from the first screening (the written examination in economics) and the submission of the results of the language proficiency test.
