To become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), an individual must pass the CPA examination administered by the Certified Public Accountants and Auditing Oversight Board of the Financial Services Agency. Subsequently, they must complete two years of practical experience, undertake professional accountancy education, and pass the final assessment conducted by the Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants. To become a licensed tax accountant (zeirishi), one must pass the tax accountant examination administered by the National Tax Council of the National Tax Agency (which can typically be taken from the third year of university) and have at least two years of practical work experience.
The Accounting Research Office plans and implements a variety of informational events—such as guidance sessions, lectures, and tours of audit firms—for Keio students who are aiming, or may be considering a career, to become accounting professionals such as CPAs and licensed tax accountants.
