Overview:
This lecture is designed as an introduction to the economics of education, considering students who may be unfamiliar with the subject. The overall theme will address which aspects of economics, and to what extent, students of education and people working in the educational field should know. In recent years, research in the economics of education has yielded important findings for examining the so-called "disparity" issue in education and for evaluating the effectiveness of educational policies. However, insights from the economics of education are not yet sufficiently examined within the field of education, and vice versa, making interaction between these two academic disciplines essential. In this lecture, Mr. Hideo Akabayashi, a leading expert in the economics of education, will discuss this issue from various perspectives.
