Overview: While various entities—such as universities and other research institutions, professional associations, and government agencies—conduct research on the arts industry, these activities are often carried out independently in Japan. The current situation can hardly be described as one with a division of labor or collaboration that leverages the unique characteristics of each entity. In this lecture, we will welcome Yoshiko Sato and Mayumi Mita from the Japan Foundation for Regional Art-Activities. Focusing on the Foundation's research activities, they will provide an overview of their projects and their history. We will also discuss the potential for information sharing and systematic research.
