As an attempt to bridge medical sciences and the humanities and social sciences, we will welcome Dr. Eugene Raikhel from the Department of Comparative Human Development at the University of Chicago. Dr. Raikhel has played a central role in building a global network for medical anthropology. He will speak about his research on addiction and psychiatry in Russia and his pioneering activities, including the launch of Somatosphere. In addition, young researchers and physicians from Japan active in interdisciplinary fields such as medical anthropology and transcultural psychiatry will give presentations, and we will hold a discussion on the direction for internationally developing the social scientific study of medicine.
