Mita Philosophical Society Lecture "Bridging Medicine and the Humanities and Social Sciences V: The Edges of the Clinic"

In an age where medicine has become highly advanced and the specializations within both the natural sciences and the humanities and social sciences have become fragmented, it is not easy for experts from different fields to achieve a deep mutual understanding. To overcome this divide, we will welcome Dr. Jeremy Greene, an internist and medical historian who is globally active across disciplines and has led research into the history of disease and medicine, and Dr. Harris Solomon, who received the New Millennium Book Award (from the Society for Medical Anthropology) for his research on diabetes in India, to discuss "The Edges of the Clinic." Together with practicing physicians and social scientists from Japan, we will attempt to explore approaches that connect medicine with the humanities and social sciences by focusing on different aspects of the clinical setting, such as pediatric care, geriatric care, psychiatric care, disaster medicine, emergency medicine, and telemedicine. We broadly welcome participation from healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and students in the fields of medical sciences and the humanities and social sciences, as well as anyone interested in bridging these domains. No pre-registration is required and admission is free, so we encourage you to attend.
