Overview
Professor John Lie of the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley, is a sociologist specializing in areas such as theoretical sociology and ethnicity studies. He is currently visiting Keio University as a Guest Professor (Global). Taking this opportunity, he will give a lecture titled "The Fate of Sociology in the United States." Today, American sociology is undergoing diversification, multipolarization, and decentralization. While each field has its own leading researchers, it seems there are no longer sociologists like Parsons, Merton, Goffman, and Homans of the past who represented American sociology across different fields. In this lecture, Professor Lie will discuss the current state of American sociology, which is difficult to see from the outside. We encourage you to attend.
