Abstract | As cross-border human migration increases, the presence of households with infants and toddlers in host societies cannot be overlooked. Bookstart is one of the public services that families with infants and toddlers can benefit from shortly after the birth of a newborn. This presentation focuses on the Bookstart programs implemented primarily in Sweden and Denmark, which mainly target families with immigrant and refugee backgrounds, and discusses the actual state of these services and their delivery systems. By presenting these overseas case studies, we hope to discuss with the participants what kind of service expansion and system development will be necessary for public libraries in Japan to support families with foreign roots and young children, in cooperation and collaboration with other institutions. |
