Lecture Abstract:
All humans possess, as a function of the brain, the ability to acquire their own knowledge and skills in a meaningful way through proactive, interactive, and deep learning. Especially in educational settings, it is expected that by promoting and activating this cerebral capacity, children will continue their "learning and growth" and become independent expert actors who can thrive in society. Therefore, this lecture provides a neuroscientific explanation of children's "learning and growth"—a common goal of educational reforms in Japan and around the world, including the OECD. It does so by proposing and utilizing the "Enactive Brain theory & model," an active brain system that supports human action (i.e., intentional and motivated behavior).
