What is your current job?
I work at the Policy Division of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, where I am involved in cultural administration for all of Japan. It is a department that deals with a wide range of cultural aspects that are part of our daily lives, from manga and anime to cultural properties, copyrights, and the Japanese language.
When do you find your studies at the Faculty of Letters useful in your work?
I was originally interested in becoming a curator, so I took curator courses at the Faculty of Letters. I also visited various museums and art galleries to study what kinds of people were looking at what kinds of works and with what expressions. This experience has been helpful now that I am in the workforce, as I consider the administration of museums and art galleries as part of my job.
What are the advantages of being a Faculty of Letters student during job hunting?
During my job search, I felt that I was asked how I wanted to engage with society and how I wanted to change it. At the Faculty of Letters, I was able to learn about the movements of people and society through sociology and human sciences. I believe this enabled me to academically explain, from that perspective, the reasons behind my experiences and feelings during my job search.
To those considering applying to the Faculty of Letters
At the Keio University Faculty of Letters, you can study a variety of subjects even if you haven't decided what you want to do in your first year. Even after I advanced to the Major in Human Sciences in my second year, I was able to take psychology classes. At the Keio University Faculty of Letters, you can study what you love, no matter which major you choose. In that sense, the Faculty of Letters offers a wide range of learning opportunities. As an alumna, I would be delighted if you all would come to the Faculty of Letters.
