"Unexpected Encounters" That Expand My World

An Environment Where I Can Thoroughly Pursue My Interests

I applied to the Faculty of Business and Commerce because I wanted to unravel the mechanisms of business. It all started when I learned that the casual scenery of a sales floor is actually built upon meticulously calculated marketing strategies. I became interested in more deeply pursuing the fascination of how theory and practice connect.

I chose the Keio University Faculty of Business and Commerce because I felt that the breadth of fields available for study and the environment for deepening my interests were exceptionally well-established. Even within the field of marketing alone, there are professors specializing in detailed areas such as advertising, distribution, and consumer behavior. I found it very attractive that I could value my desire to "thoroughly pursue my realizations and questions."

Peers with Diverse Backgrounds

The reason I am glad I chose the Faculty of Business and Commerce is that there are many "unexpected encounters" that expand my world. The "encounters" I refer to here are not limited to academics; they include interactions with people, the diverse values gained there, and even experiences involving society.

The Faculty of Business and Commerce has about 1,000 students in each year. Connections across year levels are strong, and activities with other faculties are also active. Being surrounded by peers with various backgrounds leads to "encounters" that broaden my perspective, and I feel I have been able to find something I can truly be passionate about.

A Sense of Accomplishment in Diverse Seminar Activities

In the seminar I belong to, I am researching advertising theory within commercial science (the marketing field). Activities are centered on group work and range widely, including debates, business contests, thesis writing, and presentations at international conferences. While the days are busy, the sense of accomplishment when completing a task is exceptional. The distance between peers is close; we face our activities with all our might, exchanging opinions frankly during discussions while supporting each other—that is the kind of atmosphere we have.

The presence of professors who engage sincerely with each student is also a major attraction. I am supported by professors who not only provide research consultations but also listen to my daily concerns and always put the students first.

The Freedom to Challenge Myself with What I Want to Do

Outside of classes, I belong to the Faculty of Business and Commerce Seminar Committee, where I am in charge of seminar management and public relations. Working in a large organization involving over 50 seminars and their member students comes with responsibility, but it is rewarding to be able to contribute to the faculty as a whole. I have also actively engaged in off-campus activities such as club activities, internships, and studying for certifications. I feel that being able to "freely challenge myself with what I want to do and change myself" is something unique to university life.

This may be a time when all of you feel anxiety or pressure. However, the time you spend putting in effort will surely become your strength. Please do your best without giving up. We are waiting for you at Keio University.
