SFC: A Place for Those Who Have Goals and Pursue Them with All Their Might
Wanting to Study Various Academic Fields Cross-disciplinarily
I applied to the Faculty of Policy Management because I wanted to study without being confined to a single academic discipline. I have been interested in labor issues in classical ballet, which I have practiced since childhood. Using that as a core, I was looking for a university where I could cross-disciplinarily study economics, management, labor law, social structures, and more.
I decided to aim for SFC because I felt I could do exactly that there. As I researched further, I learned about the campus's nature-rich environment and the success of alumni, which further strengthened my desire to enter SFC.
Discoveries and Inspiration in My Seminar (Kenkyukai)
I have been a member of a seminar focused on social marketing since the fall semester of my second year. I think the characteristic of this seminar is the good balance between input and output. While giving presentations on the contents of weekly assigned readings, we also proceed with individual and team research. Because I can apply what I learn from the readings to my own research, there are many discoveries. Since there are many people involved in various initiatives both inside and outside the university, the feedback is multifaceted and inspiring every time.
I believe the charm of SFC is that you can meet many people who are honest about what they want to do and can pursue it with all their might. The campus is full of people with goals, such as those starting businesses or engaging in various activities inside and outside the university. All those people have sparkling eyes, and when I meet and talk with them, I can gain many insights.
Conveying the Charm of Ballet and Facing Its Problems
Alongside my classes and seminar activities, I run a student organization related to ballet. I started this activity because my awareness of the issues matched that of a friend I met during student life. Under the concept of "The Intersection of People Living with Ballet," we work to convey the charm of ballet to more people and to face the labor issues of dancers.
Specifically, we hold workshops and events and produce video works. In producing video works, we collaborate with a video circle within the university for filming, and it is very fun to be able to actually work with the people I met at SFC.
Refining the Ability to Verbalize My Thoughts
I want to become someone who can deliver valuable things to many people. To that end, I am currently refining my ability to verbalize. Until high school, I was not good at verbalizing, which is why I relied on ballet as a method of expression. However, I have realized the necessity of verbalizing my thoughts and ideas in order to deliver the value of ballet. To refine that power, I am greedily engaging in seminar and student organization activities.
What is it that you all want to pursue at university? SFC will surely respond to each individual's passion.
