Since 2013, Higashikawa Town (Hokkaido) has been collaborating with Professor Masatoshi Tamamura’s research group from the Faculty of Policy Management to jointly promote the development of the "Higashikawa style leading the future program". This initiative aims to foster human resources capable of driving regional revitalization, globalization, and social innovation etc.
In 2018, the Keio Research Institute at SFC collaborated with the town of Higashikawa, where they continue to work together on various joint research projects, such as the Higashikawa Shareholder Program and the Official Partner Program. In addition, from 2021, Keio graduate students, project faculty members, and researchers from the Keio Research Institute at SFC have been conducting research in-residence in Higashikawa, Hokkaido. A number of R&D activities are currently underway, such as one titled “Development and Implementation of a School Supporting Career Development among Adults in the Local Community: The Folkehöyskole Model in Higashikawa, Hokkaido in Practice and Review” and another titled “Higashikawa Youth Hometown Residents System.”
