Sanjo City (Niigata Prefecture) and SFC concluded an agreement in 2017, and in collaboration with the Keio Research Institute at SFC, Professor Masatoshi Tamamura of the Faculty of Policy Management and his research group are jointly promoting research on the formation of a regional society full of vitality and the development of programs to foster human resources that will lead the future society. Since AY 2018, graduate students have been residing in Sanjo City, where they have been conducting verification studies and implementation of community development projects through sports. In addition, efforts by local volunteers toward community development have been progressing, and initiatives such as the “Hangaku-Hankyo (Learning while Teaching, Teaching while Learning) Workshop” by Sanjo City high school students and SFC undergraduate students are being organized on an ongoing basis. In AY 2024, Keio concluded an “Collaboration Agreement on Promotion of Regional Revitalization and International Cooperation in R&D” among three parties, which included the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). These parties will continue to conduct R&D to create a synergistic system that advances regional revitalization and international cooperation.
