As part of an industry–government–academia partnership agreement between Kunigami Village, the Kunigami Village Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Keio University Graduate School of Media Design (KMD), the Roadside Station Yanbaru Pineapple hills Aha has been serving as a base for activities aiming to develop a sustainable community that both coexists with nature and is resilient to disasters. In AY 2025, those efforts were focused on strengthening resilience in both normal and disaster situations by making use of solar panels and storage batteries. Concurrently, the partnership also provided the public with opportunities for observing and livestreaming wildlife and engaging in experiential activities making use of local resources. The partnership has also worked on leveraging local resources in realizing the “sixth sector”—a model in which primary producers integrate processing and distribution—as well as on expanding the number of visitors.
