The Faculty of Science and Technology and the Graduate School of Science and Technology host the "Keio Science & Technology Distinguished Lecture Series," inviting renowned lecturers from various fields in Japan and abroad to speak to Keio students, particularly those from the Faculty and Graduate School of Science and Technology.
On Thursday, June 12, the 12th installment of this lecture series was held, featuring Mr. Satoru Katsuno, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. Keio students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, and staff gathered at the venue, the Fujiwara Hiroshi Hall on the Hiyoshi Campus, and listened intently to Mr. Katsuno's lecture.
In his lecture, themed "Toward the Sustainability of International Society (GX with DX)," he primarily explained the evolution of the electric power industry and the movement toward carbon neutrality for achieving Green Transformation (GX). He also introduced, as an example of aiming for social transformation through GX with DX, the provision of services that use electricity data to make life more convenient and prosperous. At the end of the lecture, addressing global-scale challenges, he discussed Japan's current situation and issues while speaking about what the nation's future should look like.
The second half featured a Q&A session in a round-table format. The participating Keio students asked so many questions that there was not enough time to answer them all, including "What is the difference between research conducted in academia and industry?," "What are the trends in nuclear power in Japan?," and "What are your views on gaining the understanding of local communities?" The lecture concluded on a high note.
The Faculty of Science and Technology and the Graduate School of Science and Technology will continue to organize lecture events that invite lecturers at the forefront of society, not only as part of the regular curriculum but also through initiatives like the "Keio Science & Technology Distinguished Lecture Series" and the "Human Education Lecture Series."
